Outlaw Triathlon Women's Inclusion Policy 2027

The policies below are the specific commitments we make to women racing with us in 2027. They have been shaped by what women in our community have told us, by our partners, and by our own post-event feedback.
- Women-only facilities
We provide clearly signposted women-only toilets in the main event areas at every Outlaw venue and at every on-course feed station. Every women-only toilet is stocked with free sanitary products, so you don't need to carry your own or ask for them.
- Pregnancy, fertility and baby loss deferrals
We know pregnancy, fertility treatment, welcoming a new child and baby loss can change your plans completely, and your race entry should be the last thing you have to worry about.
If you become pregnant after entering, are undergoing IVF or other fertility treatment, or experience pregnancy or baby loss, you can defer your entry to the same event in any of the following three years, free of charge. Just email us at info@outlawtriathlon.com at any time before your event, even if the usual transfer and deferral deadlines have passed.
The same applies if you are welcoming a new child through adoption or surrogacy within the three months before your event. You can defer your entry to the same event in any of the following three years, free of charge. We may ask for a note from your doctor, midwife or clinic, or confirmation of a birth, surrogacy or adoption. Every request is handled privately and with care, and only shared with the people who need it to process your deferral.
- Breastfeeding and expressing facilities
If you are breastfeeding or expressing, we can provide a private, comfortable space for you to feed or express during your race. Just email us at info@outlawtriathlon.com at least two weeks before your event, and we will make sure everything is ready for you.
- Private changing
At the Outlaw Original, we provide separate women's and men's changing areas inside transition.
Private changing makes a real difference to a lot of women, including those who need modesty-friendly spaces, and since introducing it we have seen more women taking part as a result.
- Free entries for first-time women triathletes
As a Gold Partner of Women in Tri UK, we provide 20 free-of-charge entries each year for women taking part in triathlon for the first time who may face financial barriers.
Women in Tri pass the entries on through their community and mentorship programme, so the women who receive them are supported from sign-up to the start line. We are proud to work with Women in Tri to help widen access to the sport.
- The New To Tri wave
Our New To Tri wave at the Outlaw Original Weekend is designed for anyone taking on their first triathlon, coming back to the sport, or simply wanting a calmer, no-pressure race.
It includes a women-only start wave, making it the perfect opportunity for first-time or nervous women athletes to take part. The wave also has extended cut-offs, a later 11:30 start so you can register and rack on the morning, and a completely traffic-free bike course of four laps on a private road within the venue.
- Safe and respectful racing
Everyone at an Outlaw event has the right to feel safe, whether they are racing, crewing, volunteering or spectating. We do not tolerate harassment, intimidation or abuse of any kind, on course, around the venue or online.
If something happens, tell any member of our crew or event team on the day, or email info@outlawtriathlon.com afterwards. Every report will be listened to and acted on, and anyone found to have harassed others may be disqualified and refused entry to future Outlaw events.
You can also choose to keep your name private. If you would rather your name did not appear on the start list, results or live tracking, email us at least 21 days before your event and we will anonymise your details.
Things we have always done
Many of the practices that make Outlaw a welcoming and inclusive environment for women are not necessarily defined by formal policies, but are embedded in the way we have always organised and delivered our events.
- Equal prizes and podiums. Men and women receive equal prizes, the same size podiums and the same number of age-group categories at every Outlaw event.
- Start formats that feel calmer. Most of our events use a time trial swim start, where you seed yourself by your predicted swim time rather than by gender.
- Women-specific finisher t-shirts. Our finisher t-shirts are available in women's sizing.
Our partnership with Women in Tri
We are a Gold Partner of Women in Tri UK, a community of women triathletes across the UK, and work closely with them to make sure our events are designed with women and beginners in mind. Their insight, drawn from real experiences in their community, has directly shaped several of the policies above.
Alongside our 20 free entries, we support their first triathlon and mentorship programmes, and collaborate on content that helps women prepare for and race with confidence.
Listening and reviewing
Every athlete receives a post-event survey after their race, and we read every response. That feedback, along with conversations with our partners and community, is how these policies keep improving.
We review this policy every year before entries open for the next season. If you have an idea, a concern or an experience you'd like to share, email us at info@outlawtriathlon.com. We would genuinely like to hear from you.
