RECORD BREAKING DAY AT OUTLAW X 2023

Matt Collins broke the course record by five minutes at the Outlaw X middle distance triathlon, 4 September, and secured his professional triathlon licence in the process. Rhian Hughes was also rewarded for her tenacity with a win and pro license.

A member of Team Outlaw and a Loughborough University Student, Collins had been supported throughout the year in his quest to turn professional. As part of this package, he received free entries and a bike fit from Matt Bottrill.

He finished 3rd at Outlaw Half Nottingham and 2nd in Holkham. Now he needed to win in Thoresby Park to achieve his goal. Against the odds, having not run due to injury in the lead up, he won in a time of 4:03:12, sliced five minutes off the previous record and picked up a £1500 bonus.

Leeds based Rhian Hughes has been a regular podium finisher at Outlaw, including having finished second last year at Outlaw X to Megan McDonald. She was also 2nd at Outlaw Half Nottingham and Outlaw Half Holkham earlier this year.

This time, Hughes was the favourite to win and in her trademark style, she took the lead during the 13.1 mile run and impressively cruised to the finish to take the win ahead of Dee Allen.
