BARLEY & LAWRENCE WIN AS RECORDS FALL AT OUTLAW FULL
Sam Barley and Natalie Lawrence were the 2023 winners of Outlaw Nottingham triathlon on a windy day that saw seven age group course records broken.
Barley was second last year in a sprint finish with Alex Woodman after a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run. The pair were given the same time, but Barley was judged to be just ahead via the finish line photo. This year, he was a clear winner and faster than last year, too.
His time of 8:36:24 was a significant improvement on last year’s 8:42:26 – even with the ferocious wind! Peter Hogben was second in 8:50:42 and Danny Bluff finished 3rd in 8:52:13.
Natalie Lawrence was a strong favourite in the women’s race and delivered a winning performance in style. The former elite triathlete remarkably balances training with being a mum of four young children, who all crossing the finishing line with her.
In her first ever Outlaw distance event, Lawrence set the third fastest ever time by a woman – 9:35:40. Doncaster’s Shawnie Lovatt was second in 10:18:32 and Beth Wilmot, a regular at Outlaw events, was third in 10:41:10.
